Barefoot in Barcelona

This week I was on vacation in Barcelona! It was my first time in the city and my first time in mainland Spain, previously I’ve only been to the Canary Islands. Me and my boyfriend had a lovely vacation and I thought I’d share som pictures from it.

When you’re on vacation you have to have nails that match the destination. Since I didn’t have Barefoot in Barcelona from OPI from before I got it while I was in Barcelona. Here you see Barefoot in Barcelona, in Barcelona! In the background you can (almost) see Sagrada Familia and Torre Agbar.

We went to Playa de la Barceloneta and had some sangria! This cava sangria was one of the best on our trip.

My nails and the beach! This picture is also from Playa de la Barceloneta.

On Tuesday night went to Palau Sant Jordi to see Adele! Amazing woman, amazing voice, amazing show. Thanks for the amazing christmas gift babe!

We had some tapas at Cervecería Catalana. The sangria was really good, and so was the food and the dessert. Creme catalana is always a good idea!

On Thursday night it was time for another concert, this time Coldplay! So we went up to Montjuïc again, to Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, which is located right next to Palau Sant Jordi. This show was amazing too! Everybody got Xylobands that would light up in different colors synchronized to the music. It was so cool to see and they made the show so much more fun and special!

Aside from these pictures we walked around in the city a lot. We did some shopping, beauty and nail polish for me and vinyl for my boyfriend. And on our last day before going home we went on a tourist bus that got us around the city sightseeing.

Black & White

Every week OPI Sweden has a new theme for #veckansopi and this week’s theme is black and white.

I created my manicure using Alpine snow, Lady in black, marbled zig zag stencils from Whatsupnails and a dotting tool. They were really easy to make, all you need is a little bit of time for the polish to dry before putting on the stencil. I really like how they turned out!

Black and white does not mean boring nails (even though I prefer a little color on my nails), do you agree with me?

OPI Show us your tips! vs Depend O2 485

The other day I got some summer news from Depend. One of the polishes caught my attention a little more than the others. I thought it was pretty similar to another polish released earlier this year. Let’s see if I was right or not.

So, I’m comparing OPI’s Show us your tips! from the New Orleans spring collection, and Depend O2 485, from this year’s summer collection called Colour POP.

img_9951-1OPI Show us your tips! & Depend O2 485

Here you see three coats of both polishes over one coat of base coat. The formula of the two polishes are pretty similar. They are a bit thin and they need a few coats to get opaque.

Comparing the two bottles next to each other you can see a little bit more of a color shift in the shimmer in the polish from Depend, but on the nails it is unfortunately not visible.

So if you didn’t get a chance to pick up Show us your tips! when it was released (and want to save some money) you could get 485 from Depend, because they are dupes.

OPI Neon 2016: TRŪNEON

OPI is releasing a new neon collection called TRŪNEON this summer! Their last neon collection was released in 2014 and consisted of six polishes and a white base coat called Put a coat on! It looks like Put a coat on! will be back for this collection.dda24

I don’t know about you, but as soon as the summer weather starts to arrive I tend to go for bright neon polishes on my nails. This past week the weather in Sweden has been amazing (sunshine and 25ºC) and I have already worn two of the polishes from the last neon collection (Down to the core-al and Hotter than you pink) so I’m a bit curious for swatches of this new collection.

And imagine doing a water marble with these new polishes! 😍

OPI I am what I amethyst vs Essie Virgin snow

It’s time for another comparison swatch! This time I’m showing you OPI’s I am what I amethyst, from this years Soft shades collection, and Essie’s Virgin snow, from last years winter collection.

img_9659OPI I am what I amethyst & Essie Virgin snow

Here you see two coats of each polish on my nails. Both polishes are pretty similar in the formula.

On it’s own I am what I amethyst looks purple, but compared to Virgin snow it looks more blue. Pretty similar polishes, but not dupes as you see in the pictures.

Which one do you prefer?

Cherry blossoms

I love this time of year so much, especially when the cherry blossoms start to bloom. So I just had to make some nails to match the season! 🌸

The base is It’s a boy! from this year’s soft shades collection. I used How great is your Dane? for the branches, Mod about you and Shorts story to paint the flowers and You are so outta lime! for the leaves.

Of course I had to get a picture with my nails and a cherry blossom tree!

Holy Grail: Cuticle oil

A very important step in getting beautiful and healthy nails is to use cuticle oil! I know that some may think that a cuticle oil is a bit expensive, but it’s really not because it will last for a very long time. I use mine several times during the day and it lasts for months. Since I’ve started to use cuticle oil regularly I’ve seen a big difference with my nails.

Last spring my nails were short and kept breaking and peeling. I tried a few different nail strengtheners with mixed results. I also started to use cuticle oil much more than before and that made my nails (and cuticles) really happy. You have to be patient though, because it takes time before you see a difference!

My favorite cuticle oil is Avoplex from OPI. I have one bottle at home, one on my desk at work and in my bag I have an Avoplex cuticle oil to go. I like the smell of the oil and how it feels on my cuticles, I doesn’t leave me greasy but it still moisturizes.

Which is your favorite cuticle oil?

OPI I’m gown for anything vs Essie Go Ginza

Today I’m gonna show you a comparison between I’m gown for anything from OPI and Go Ginza from Essie.

img_9632OPI I’m gown for anything & Essie Go Ginza

Comparing the two bottles next to each other they pretty much look like dupes. But are they?

On my nails you see two coats of each polish. Formula wise Go Ginza is a bit thinner than I’m gown for anything. You could get away with just one coat of I’m gown for anything, but with Go Ginza you’ll need two coats.

I’m gown for anything is a bit more lilac and Go Ginza is a bit more pink. In my opinion they are not dupes, but they are very very similar. So you probably won’t need both. 😉

Summertime mani

Today I’m gonna show you a manicure that I’ve thought about making for a while now and finally had time to do! I think it turned out really great, very summer-y and pretty! The inspiration behind this mani is a Kokeshi doll that I got from Skincity in a recent order.

For this mani I used Alpine snow, Love.Angel.Music.Baby and Down to the core-al, all from OPI. The Zebra pattern is made with stencils from Snail vinyls.

Then I added a flower using Hibiscus flower stencils, aslo from Snail vinyls, and Down to the core-al. The leaves are hand painted with I’m sooo swamped! and You are so outta lime!

My nails and the Kokeshi doll that I was inspired by!

Here is a comparison picture before and after I added the flower. I love how the look completely changes when adding the flower!

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass

The Soft shades collection has just been released (at least here in Sweden), and now it’s time for another new collection from OPI; this years Brights collection called Alice Through the Looking Glass.

All swatches are painted over one coat of base coat and are without topcoat.

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – The I’s have it

The I’s have it is a lovely light blue polish! I’ve lately become kind of obsessed with blue polishes so with this one it was love at first sight. The formula is really good and it covers in two coats.

The I’s have it är ett ljuvligt ljusblått lack.

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – Oh my majesty!

Oh my majesty! is such a pretty and unique polish, I have nothing like it in my collection! It’s a pearly white polish with gold shimmer that looks very lush. I needed three coats for full opacity.

Oh my majesty!

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – What’s the hatter with you?

What’s the hatter with you? is a dark purple polish. I just love colors like this one! However I don’t think it’s very summer-y, and this is a summer collection, I like to wear colors like this one during fall. The formula of the polish is a bit runny, and it covers in two coats.

What’s the hatter with you?

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – I’m gown for anything!

I’m gown for anything! is a lilac polish that covers really good in just one coat, but I used two coats though. The formula is really good and the polish is very easy to apply. Looking through my collection, a color like this one has been missing.

I’m gown for anything!

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – Fearlessly Alice

Fearlessly Alice is an amazing polish in so many ways. The formula is lovely and so easy to apply. It’s basically a OCW (one coat wonder) but I ended up wearing two coats to get a richer color. The bright blue color is lovely as well. Thumbs up OPI!

Tummarna upp OPI!

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – A mirror escape

A mirror escape is a metallic gold polish with white and silver glitter. I don’t really know how I feel about this one. It’s very unique, but is it in a good way? I don’t really like the feel of textured polishes, and I’m guessing you’ll need quite some coats of top coat to get this one smooth. Formula is good and I used two coats.

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – Having a big head day

Having a big head day is a classic red polish. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, OPI really know how to make red polishes! The formula is good, and it covers in two coats.

Having a big head day är ett klassiskt rött lack.

OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass – Mad for madness sake

Mad for madness sake is a lovely raspberry pink polish. The formula of this one is also amazing, almost a OCW, but (as you probably know by know) I used two coats.

There is also a “Special edition” shade from this collection called What Time Isn’t It? which I don’t have. Here at beautygeeks you can see a swatch of it. I’m not sorry that I don’t have it though, I’m not a big fan of long confetti glitter in a polish. Nope.

Here’s some comparison swatches for you! I found similar polishes that I’ve swatched from my collection, I still have quite a few left to swatch…

Overall I’m really surprised with this collection. I mainly got it because of the two blue, the lilac and the pearly white polishes. But most of the other polishes surprised me with amazing formulas and few coats.
