Whats up nails Alchemy powder

Hi guys, how are you? I haven’t been very active here lately, but I’ve just been so busy with work.

To compensate for my absence I have something really cool to show you today, chrome nail powder! You may have seen these powders all over Instagram last year. When they hit the market we were told that you could only use them with gel polish, otherwise the chrome finish would be ruined. I have used gel polish previously, but I’m pretty sure I’m allergic to it, and I wouldn’t want to risk the health of my nails by trying it again. But recently I learned that the powders work with regular polish too, just as long as you use them with a water based top coat.

IMG_3348

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Lena from Whats up nails, asking if I wanted to try some of their new products (of course I said yes!). One of the things I got was the Alchemy Powder, and obviously I had to try it immediately!

IMG_3347

Isn’t the result just magical!? I could stare at my nails for days!

Here’s how I applied the powder using regular polish:

1. Apply a base coat. I used Ridge filler from Essie to get a smooth surface. I know from experience that any imperfections will show up when you use chrome polishes.

2. Paint your nails with a black polish. Black is what Whats up nails recommend, but other colors will work too, though I think the result won’t be as intense over a lighter polish. I painted my nails with two coats of Lady in black from OPI.

3. Apply a top coat. I used Gel Setter from Essie to get a smooth and glossy finish.

This step is not necessary, you can skip it. I used top coat to get smooth surface but applying one more coat of polish also increases the drying time.

4. To protect the skin around my nails I used Cuticle protectors from Born Pretty Store.

5. After letting the top coat dry for approximately 2-3 minutes (just so it’s dry to the touch) I started applying the powder, and a little goes a long way!! You don’t need much powder at all, so make sure that you don’t use too much.

6. Gently buff the powder on your nails using your finger. The more you buff, the better it looks, so give it some time.

7. When I was happy with the result I took a fan brush and gently swept it over the nails to remove any leftover powder.

8. Time for top coat! This is the step where it all can go wrong, so make sure that you use a water based top coat, otherwise the mirror finish will be ruined. I used Secret top/base coat from Little Ondine.

IMG_3351

The wear time when you use powders with regular polish is not that long, but I don’t mind since I change my nails almost every day anyway. I will continue experimenting with powders and see what combination will work best for me!

What do you think of this duo chrome look? And have you tired any powders?

March favorites

Ooops I totally forgot to post my favorite designs from March here in the blog too, you may have already seen them on my Instagram page.

It looks like bright colors and gradient was my obsession this past month! ❤

My absolute favorite design from March is my freehanded Hufflepuff nails. Which one of these designs do you like the most?

Blue floral nails

Hi guys, I hope you’re all well. Only one more day left until the weekend!

Today I’m wearing these cute floral nails that I made using a new stamping plate. Last Thursday I ordered a few stamping plates from nailartuk.co.uk and I got them on Monday, so talk about fast shipping. I’m not sure if I would’ve gotten them this fast if I’d ordered them from a Swedish store, so I will definitely be checking out this store again. What I got was the new Little baby stamping plate from ÜberChic beauty as well as two stamping plates, Feeling shapely! 07 and 4 seasons Spring 01, from Lina nail art supplies. The later is a brand that is new to me. I found a lot of beautiful plates from Lina, but since I haven’t tried them before I just got two to see if they were any good.

img_9330

For this floral design I used The I’s have it and Oh my majesty! from OPI, White knight from MoYou London and stamping plate 4 seasons Spring 01 from Lina nail art supplies. I really really like this stamping plate, it has so many cute motives that are perfect for spring. I think you can expect quite a few designs using this plate in the near future.

Tropical nails

Hi everybody, I hope you had a good weekend. Today I’m sharing my first nail art design using polishes from the Fiji collection. It’s a bright and fun manicure that definitely gives me spring vibes.

img_6926

img_6940

The polishes I used for this mani are: Living on the bula-vard, No tan lines and Exotic birds do not tweet. I started by painting two coats of Exotic birds do not tweet, the I grabbed a makeup sponge to create the gradient with. I dabbed each nail a few times until I was happy with the result. After that I added a quick dry top coat to get a smooth and even more blended result.

img_6921

img_6939

The last step of the design was to add the tropical flowers. To create them I used stamping plate Tropical collection 13 and stamping polish White knight from MoYou London together with my clear stamper from Born Pretty store. After that I sealed in the design once again with the fast drying top coat HK Girl from Glisten&Glow.

And a little behind the scenes / work in progress picture.

I hope you like this design and that it gives you spring feelings!

OPI Fiji | comparisons

As promised, here are my comparison swatches of the shades from the Fiji collection (except for I can never hut up which is pretty unique). I dug out the shades that I thought would be the most similar from my pretty big OPI collection. So if your wondering about a specific polish that I haven’t compared it too, either I don’t have it or they were not similar enough.

bla-skimmer

img_6492Do you sea what I sea? – I sea you wear OPI – Venice the party? – Yodel me on my cell

Here I’m wearing three coats of each shade. Do you sea what I sea is most similar too Vencie the party?, but it has more of a frosty and sparkly finish.

ljusbla

img_6493Suzi without a paddle – Sailing & Nail-ing – Gelato on my mind – It’s a boy!

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade, except for It’s a boy which I’m wearing three coats of. Suzi without a paddle is pretty much a dupe of It’s a boy!, though it covers better in fewer coats.

img_6923

img_6494Is that a spear in your pocket? – Stay off the lawn!! – Amazon…Amazoff

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. I think you all will agree with me when I say no dupes here. Is that a spear in your pocket? is different and pretty and you should get it!

bla

img_6495Super trop-i-cal-i-Fiji-istic – Keeping Suzi at bay – My pal Joey – Suzi says feng shui

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. Nope, no dupes here either. I think Super trop-i-cal-i-Fiji-istic is a beautiful royal blue polish that you must get, but how annoying is that name!? Try writing it a few times….

sand

img_6496Coconuts over OPI – Don’t pretzel my buttons – Samoan sand – Pale to the chief

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. When we see all the bottles lined up next to each other they all look really similar, but once the polish is on the nails that is no longer that case.

img_6412

img_6497Polly want a lacquer? – I’m gown for anything – Purple palazzo pants – You’re such a Budapest

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade, except for You’re such a Budapest which I’m wearing three coats of. I don’t have a dupe for Polly want a lacquer?, and this is my favorite shade from the collection, so I’d say that you should get it!

gul

img_6498Exotic birds do not tweet – I just can’t cope-acabana – My twin Mimmy – Need sunglasses?

Here I’m wearing three coats of each shade. They pretty much all look like dupes on the photo. But in reality only Exotic birds do not tweet and My twin Mimmy are pretty much dupes. I just can’t cope-acabana is lighter and Need sunglasses? is darker and has more of a jelly finish.

img_6419

img_6499No tan lines – Is mai tai crooked? – Orange you stylish! – Where did Suzi’s man-go?

Here I’m wearing three coats of each shade. No tan lines = no dupes.

img_6420

img_6500Two-timing the zones – Look at my bow! – Shorts story – Kiss me on my tulips

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. Two-timing the zones and Shorts story is pretty much dupes, Shorts story is perhaps a little bit lighter. Since Shorts story is one of my go-to shades for floral nail art I would recommend you to get Two-timing the zones if you don’t already own Shorts story that is.

ljusrosa

img_6501Getting nadi on my honeymoon – Small + cute = ♥ – Mod about you – Suzi shops & island hops

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. Getting nadi on my honeymoon is pretty much a dupe of Mod about you. I love both shades, so if you don’t have Mod about you, I think you should totally get one of the two!

img_6422

img_6502Living on the bula-vard! – Aloha from OPI – My paprika is hotter than yours!

Here I’m wearing two coats of each shade. Living on the bula-vard! and My paprika is hotter than yours! are pretty much dupes, though MPIHTY has a bit of shimmer in it, but you can’t really see on the nails. Aloha from OPI is a little bit darker, but still pretty close to being a dupe.

I hope these swatches helped you in your decision of which shades to get. Please let me know in the comments which ones you’ll get and which ones you’ll skip out on (and why).

Next up is some nail art using shades from this collection, stay tuned for that!

OPI Fiji

Hi there! Today I’m very excited to show you the new collection from OPI called Fiji. The collection consists of 12 shades that make me want warmer weather and a vacation. The shades are not unique, we’ve seen them before (except for maybe one) but it’s still a nice collection.

img_6982

All swatches are (as usual) painted over one coat of base coat and are without top coat.

Do you sea what I sea? is a blue metallic polish that covers in three coats.

img_6970

img_6971OPI Fiji – Is that a spear in your pocket?

Is that a spear in your pocket? is a teal creme polish that covers in two coats. This color was so hard to capture on camera, it is actually more green in real life.

img_6973OPI Fiji – I can never hut up

I can never hut up is a grey polish with green shimmer that covers in two coats.

img_6974

img_6975OPI Fiji – Super trop-i-cal-i-Fiji-istic

Super trop-i-cal-i-Fiji-istic is a royal blue creme polish that covers in two coats.

Suzi without a paddle is a baby blue creme polish that covers in two coats.

img_6981OPI Fiji – Exotic birds do not tweet

Exotic birds do not tweet is a yellow creme polish that covers in three coats.

I really like most of the shades from this collection, especially all the bright ones. My favorite is the lilac Polly want a lacquer? and my least favorite is the nude Coconuts over OPI.

What do you think about this collection? Do you see any shades that you have to have?

A post with comparison swatches will be up in the next few days, so keep your eye out for that!

OPI SS 2017: Fiji

Even though the new year has just begun it’s time to start thinking about new spring polishes, don’t you think? And this spring OPI is bringing us to Fiji! The collection consist of 12 polishes, 10 of them are cremes, one is a shimmer and one is a pearl.

I wouldn’t mind some warmer weather now when I see these bright polishes, too bad that the winter weather is just about to arrive…

Two-timing the Zones – Living On the Bula-vard! – Gettig Nadi On My Honeymoon – Polly Want a Lacquer? – Do You Sea What I Sea? – Is That a Spear In Your Pocket? –I Can Never Hut Up – Super Trop-I-Cal-I-Fiji-istic – Suzi Without a Paddle – Coconuts Over – No Tan Lines – Exotic Birds Do Not Tweet

It looks like I have dupes for some of these polishes, but I won’t know for sure until we get to see swatches of them.

The Fiji collection will be available from February 1st, so in about a month we’ll get to see more of these bright and colorful polishes!

What do you think about this collection? Does it make you want warmer weather too?

December 24 | Gift wrapped nails

Happy holidays everyone!

Here are my last nails for 24 days of Christmas by Hanninator. A few days late I know, but I got sick (stomach flue) the night before Christmas eve, so I’m just happy that I managed to post them on instagram in time.

I thought the best way to end this Christmas series was to do it with gift wrapped nails. They are perhaps not so wearable, but pretty fun and cute!

img_3788

For these nails I used Alpine snowLove is in my cardsDon’t mess with OPI and Love.Angel.Music.Baby. from OPI and striping tape from eBay.

img_3785

I really enjoyed making all these Christmas themed nails and I hope I’ll have the time for it next year as well!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas filled with love and joy.

❤ Hanna

December 23 | Sequin ribbon

Hi and happy early Christmas! Tomorrow is Christmas eve and that’s the day we celebrate Christmas in Sweden. I think it’s a bit odd that we celebrate on different days depending on which country we live in. But as my parents said to me when I was little, santa can’t come to everybody on just one day, he needs two!

For day 23 of 24 days of Christmas by Hanninator I’m showing you these sequin bow nails.

img_3769

Today I’m matching my nails with a top that was my inspiration. I got the top from H&M last year and it’s got a big bow made of sequins on the front.
For these nails I used Alpine snow and Minnie style from OPI and some black acrylic paint to make the outline of the bow.

Thank glogg it’s Friday!

Since it’s Friday today I thought this polish was very suitable. Thank glogg it’s Friday! was released with the Nordic collection in the fall of 2014. I liked that collection a little bit extra since I live in the Nordic.

img_3530

I had to have some glögg (mulled wine) in the picture with the polish. The bottle you see in the picture is this year’s bottle of Blossa, they make a new special taste and bottle every year around Christmas.

Have you tried glögg? Did you like it?
